Coffee farmers in Honduras suffer severe hardship and in recent years the collapse of the world coffee market helped by Hurricane Mitch, have dramatically reduced their incomes. Many live on, or below the poverty line and yet they grow some of the best Arabica coffee beans to be found anywhere in the world.

We buy our coffee beans from the coffee and tea trading company, Kingdom Coffee. Their vision is to see profit earned from coffee and tea sales in the west re-invested into the countries where coffee and tea is grown. This stems from a social responsibility to curb the tide of exploitation of coffee growers and their associated workers.

The going rate for coffee is around £950 per ton, the company who roasts our coffee pays the Honduran coffee farmer £1,150 per ton. All coffee grown in Honduras is sold through cartels or co-operatives (a group of farmers in a local area). They are paid an over-rider of 20% premium to the co-operative which goes to help improve the infrastructure, health and education of the village and the surrounding area where the coffee is grown.
